WYcreative has created Guess Watt, a mobile game for REN, Redes Energéticas Nacionais, that puts players in the shoes of those responsible for planning and developing the networks that ensure energy reaches communities everywhere. Through challenges and strategic decisions, the game aims to bring the work behind something as everyday as switching on a light closer to audiences in a simple and interactive way.

In Guess Watt, every decision has consequences. Players must connect communities to energy sources, plan and build networks, and manage a limited budget while facing different unexpected events. Weather phenomena, accidents, fluctuations in energy production and the need to repair infrastructure all require players to adapt their decisions throughout each level.

The experience starts from a reality that often goes unnoticed: energy only becomes visible when it is no longer there. The planning, investment, construction and management behind the network happen outside the view of those who simply turn on a switch. WYcreative set out to transform this complexity into an accessible and engaging experience, using gaming as a way to connect with younger audiences.

Throughout the game, players face decisions related to network planning, sustainability, stakeholder relations, right-of-way areas and environmental issues. Each choice impacts the outcome and challenges players to find a balance between different needs and limitations.

“Creating Guess Watt required close collaboration with REN to turn a complex reality, everything involved in planning, developing and managing an electricity network, into a simple and enjoyable experience. If we can help more people, especially younger audiences, better understand this work and REN’s role, the game will already have fulfilled its essential purpose,” says Liliana Farinha, Head of Service Management at WYcreative.

Sustainability is also a central part of the experience. Throughout the different levels, players are challenged to understand how different decisions can influence the operation and development of the network, giving them an insight into the different steps involved in building and managing energy infrastructure.

“Guess Watt allows participants to experience the different stages of network development and understand how sustainability needs to be part of every strategic decision,” explains Margarida Ferreirinha, Director of Sustainability and Communications at REN.

The project is the result of a collaboration between several WYgroup companies. WYcreative was responsible for the strategy and creative concept, while the technical development was carried out by WYnova and Bliss Applications. WYperformance was responsible for the media campaign.

With this approach, Guess Watt aims to bring younger audiences closer to the reality of REN’s operations, turning a complex and technical process into an experience where every choice matters.

The game is recommended for players aged 12 and over and is now available for mobile devices on the App Store and Google Play.
